Ability to make pages

Ability to make pages

Postby deltatux on Sun Apr 20, 2008 3:24 pm

Alright, major blogging platforms like MovableType and Wordpress have support to make custom pages that are not blog posts. They do not have a date nor time format like a standard webpage. However, they are still part of the system and uses the system's template. This is very useful for those who want to build a website around the blogging system instead of the blogging system around the website.

Even smaller blogging platform like Sandbox have this functionality built in. This is the main reason holding me back from migrating. I've been playing around with the system and so far it's been interesting and easy to use.

When I have wanted to do things like that, I have made relatively simple modifications to the template to not show the date, etc. for posts in certain categories.
See http://designadvance.com/ and http://limedaley.com/ for examples of corporate sites that use LifeType but don't look like a blog.

I don't think you're understanding me. I don't want to edit the template. I want static web pages within the same system as my blogs. Like I have blog posts and the occasional webpage like a tutorial or something that isn't chronological and would be inappropriate to classify it under a blog post.

For example, on my current website, this is a web page:
http://www.kwokinator.com/videos/

and this is a blog post: http://www.kwokinator.com/2008/04/21-review.html

The URL structuring between the two types of document are different, but were created on the same system; in this case, it's MovableType.

Like I still have a blog but I can also create pages within the same system. No template editing, no hassle. I find that LifeType is the only major blog system to not have this crucial feature.

I believe I understand what you are doing. And if you looked at the links I sent, you'll see that those sites have things that are regular pages, which I add via the regular post editor. I agree that it isn't as easy as some other blog software to make "pages", but it works, so I haven't spent any more time on it.
