spam feedback

spam feedback

This maybe in the wrong post, but I don't think there's anyway around these issues, so I'm considering this feedback :) and feature requests.

1. Dashboard: Only shows last 5 comments with no filtering options.
Problem: your site is getting spammed so all you see is the last 5 spam post. Even if the spam filter correctly identified the comment as spam, it still shows up on the dashboard. I would like to have the 'spam' filtered from the dashboard.

2. Comment management: Delete is the only action that can be applied to multiple comments. I really would like to mark the spam as smap to multiple comments. I mean, I have pages of spam comments, but I have to mark each comment as spam by itself.

3. Comment Filter: Resets back to 'All' after a comment action has been performed.
situation: you already have pages of 'spam' so you set the filter to 'no spam' so you can see the comments that aren't marked. Unfortunately, there's a bunch more spam. So...
a. you 'mark' a comment as spam. page resets to 'all',
b. you reset back to 'no spam' and
c. goto a

etc. etc. etc.

NOTE:
I know of different spam fighting plugins, which I imagine I will eventuall install. I was trying to train the spam filter first, then I plan on adding the other plugins. I did install the authimage plugin, but I decided to give the filter a chance.

in closing:
I hope this doesn't sound like a rant. I don't like rants. I just wanted to point out that it would be nicer if
    a. dashboard filtered out comments already marked with spam.
    b. marking all 'checked' comments as spam like there is for 'delete'.

What version are you using?

I think both 1.0 and 1.1 have a mark comment as spam. I forget when it was added, I think a long time ago. Check for the middle icon of the three actions on recent comments.

2. Comment management: Delete is the only action that can be applied to multiple comments.

On 1.1, press the "show bulk edit options" button, and the spam choice will appear.

3. Comment Filter: Resets back to 'All' after a comment action has been performed.

I can't test this at the moment, but since you didn't know about the bulk edit, this maybe helps this problem - also I know lots of the filters in 1.1 do stay intact, even across multiple logins, so probably this works as well in 1.1.

Yeah, I know it has the spam button, but the spam comments continue to sit there hiding real comments.

I'll test after I upgrade.

Thanks for your reply. It sounds like most of my sore spots are already addressed in version 1.1. Hopefully, I can get a chance to upgrade soon.

you can make more messages appear on the dashboard, I forget if that is a configuration option, or if you have to edit the code. I understand the thing about spam comments hiding real comments, though I am not sure what is a better way to do it.

For me, I use the recent-comments plugin, so I can see recent real comments on my blog, and I use the dashboard page to make sure I don't have any spam.
