problem with custom URLs

problem with custom URLs

Postby vylmedia on Fri Mar 16, 2012 3:57 pm

Hi,

I have gone through the FAQ and the Wiki, and I have also doen some searching through some posts but still cannot get the answer I do not think. Here is my issue:

I tried adjusting my settings to Custom URL and it does apply, but when I click the new links it goes to a "Page Not Found".

How can I get this to find the post correctly?

Are you customizing the custom urls, or just choosing custom URLs off of the menu?

If you aren't changing the URLs, it is probably the case that you either didn't upload the .htaccess file, or else your server doesn't support modrewrite.

As administrator I log into the Admin portal, then go to Administration->Global Settings-> URLs and then I choose the "Custom URLs" setting from the dropdown and configured my post URL to be the following (see image) Image

When you talk about the .htaccess file, what changes might I need to make?

What does the "not found" page look like? Does it have your header, or is it more plain than that?
I can't tell if the LifeType code is running or not.

Hm, I'm not sure if the custom urls work without /blog/{blogname}. Try it with /blog/{blogname}

martinh - thanks for the suggestion. I have tried it with the blog if I am not mistaken and it still did not work though.

jondaley - I have a couple of captures that should help you see what I see. So I make the post, here called "Test Post" and it does create the post and link:

and it links to "http://www.1-voip.com/voip/blog/test_post". When I click on that link, it results in this:

Ok, have you tried the other options with date like /blog/{blogname}/{year}/{month}/{day}/{postname}$ This configuration works in our blog.

The {blogname} part is only needed in certain installations. I think your problem is that the ForceType commands in the .htaccess file aren't working. Try asking your host about that - they might have a different thing needed in the application/x-httpd-php part of each ForceType line. Some hosts use SetHandler instead.

well i tried that. You mean changing the .htaccess file in the main directory of the blog right? We host the website ourselves.

I just changed it to SetHandler... how long does it take for the change to take place? Or do I need to reload it somehow?

Sorry - I've been busy and forgot about checking these forums.

A SetHandler change will take place immediately. You need to know the mime-type of what your server uses for php files. Are you using suphp? modphp?

You said before that you "host it yourselves", which I assume means you have root access, and you setup apache and php, etc?

You need to see how you configured the mime settings for php. And how your apache expects to be told how to serve different types of files.
You can search your apache conf directory for "application/x-httpd-php", "mime", "application/" and "php" and thing like that to figure out how your server is configured.
