Hebrew translation (problems here)

Hebrew translation (problems here)

Postby Sarit on Sat Sep 10, 2005 7:11 am

Hello!
I'm from Israel and I wish to localize pLog into Hebrew.
I'm not a PHP expert but I've tried localizing before and was somewhat successful.
If anyone would like to join me in the translation process you're more than welcome.

I copied the file locale_en_UK.php and named it ‏locale_he_IL.php. I haven't finished translating everything but I to activate the file but it's not working.
I logged in and out and it still won't show up.
I tried looking for some answers in the Wiki but couldn't find any. Are there any documents that can help me? or maybe someone on the forum?

Thanks!
Sarit

What is your URL?
Are you getting any errors, either on screen, in the HTML source, or in apache's error log?
Remove any extra whitespace outside of the <?php ... ?> tags (lots of editors like to add a carriage return to the bottom of the file.

did you go to administration->manage locales->new locale file and then click the "scan locales" button?

Well,

I tried finding it using both the scanning option and the manual upload.
The scanning doesn't find it at all, however the upload results in a message saying "The file was added successfuly" but it's not in the list of locales.
I'm getting no error messages at all; I didn't start translating only until after I was sure the installation was correct.
I've rechecked the blank spaces but there aren't any (I'm using notepad and I don't usually have these problems).
It can't be a permissions problem can it? The file has the same perms. as the others.
The file's called ‏locale_he_IL.php , and this is it's first few lines:

Code: Select all
<?php
$messages['encoding'] = 'iso-8859-1';
$messages['locale_description'] = 'Hebrew locale file for pLog';
$messages['date_format'] = '%d/%m/%Y %H:%M';

// days of the week
$messages['days'] = Array( 'ראשון', 'שני', 'שלישי', 'רביעי', 'חמישי', 'שישי', 'שבת' );
// -- compatibility, do not touch -- //
$messages['Monday'] = $messages['days'][1];
$messages['Tuesday'] = $messages['days'][2];
$messages['Wednesday'] = $messages['days'][3];
$messages['Thursday'] = $messages['days'][4];
$messages['Friday'] = $messages['days'][5];
$messages['Saturday'] = $messages['days'][6];
$messages['Sunday'] = $messages['days'][0];

and so on.
Any more ideas?

Hrm, seems like you are doing everything right. It is in the right directory, right? Is this server on the internet somewhere, ie. what is the url to it?

Can you put a link to the file so that we can download it? I'd like to test this on my system...

Also, I don't think you should be using iso-8859-1 for the encodings! How about utf-8?

It is already in UTF-8 encoding.
I saved it as a .txt file for you to download here :
http://www.expecto.net/locale_he_IL.txt

Hope that's ok,
thanks for your help!

By the way, I know there's already a working Hebrew version, but I can't get in touch with the person operating it and also, I can't find it for download.
I think it's a real shame to work on this twice, but I wish it'll be added to the translation files. I think the user davix is the ones who runs the Hebrew version, but he didn't get back in touch with me. What do you do in that case?
:(

Thanks!

pLog is OSS so anyone can translate it all. No-one can be forced to share a translation. e.g I have slowly transformed the en_UK to be even more British
draught replacing draft etc

That's too bad isn't it? Kinda stands against the whole OS idea :? .

No, because en_UK is fine. I am just modifying my own file to be pedantic, but most Brits would spell draught as draft.
